Docker
Docker packages an application with the software it needs inside a container. This helps teams run the same application consistently on development computers, test systems, and servers.

A Docker image describes the files, dependencies, and startup instructions an application needs. Running that image creates a container. Teams can share the same image between development and deployment, while providing environment settings separately. Multiple containers can run related services without installing every dependency directly on the host.
What you can build
Create repeatable development environments, deploy web services, and run applications with their supporting databases and tools.
Shared development setup
Package an application and describe its database connection so teammates can run compatible local environments without manually installing the same dependencies individually.
Repeatable application releases
Build an image for a tested release and deploy that artifact to a server, making it easier to identify and reproduce the running version.
Things to consider
Containers simplify packaging but still need updates, resource limits, networking, and persistent storage. Application data should have a deliberate backup and recovery plan outside containers.
